Hi there.
I switched on my MY03 WRX this morning and noticed a loud ticking noise coming from the engine. It sounded like the turbo and I was a bit concerned as it never usually ticks that loud. I continued on my journey to work and after parking, I let the engine tick over a bit as I usually do. The ticking noise had stopped - cool.
Is it possible that the cold weather had caused this? For example, by it being so cold the metal surrounding the turbo casing had contracted a bit, thus the sides were closer then normal to the inards. Thus by warming the engine the casing expanded, giving the insrds more room to manouvere? Or is that completely wrong!!
I'd be interested in any ideas, all I do know is that I haven't damaged the car via driving it too hard. Nor have I tinkered with the actual engine in anyway - this noise really did come out of the blue.
Jas.
