What is going on with BP & Shell?
Ultimate is rated at 97 Ron so what is the point....or am I missing it.
Must be good stuff though as it is more expensive that Optimax :-))

Joking aside, I found Optimax far better than BP SUL, and yet it was 4p a litre cheaper. However, the jury's still out on BP Ultimate. It's the same price SUL used to be. I'm halfway through a tank, and I think it's better than Optimax. There seems to be less activity on the KL (although there's not a lot of activity with Optimax anyway ) and the acceleration feels a bit smoother. Although I could be totally imagining it...!
Regards,
Ade.

I am on my 5 tank of Ultimate, which I have mixed with Millers octane booster.
As the Judge said, the knocklink is a lot quieter and the engine does seem smoother.
However I am about to start using a different octane booster which comes as a fuel rather than an additive, so will let you all know how I get on.

You seem to be assuming that because it's called "Ultimate" it must/should be something other than 97 RON. Why?

Mine (MY00, Decat center, K&N panel filter)ran like a charm on ESSO SUL, it hates Optimax, however BP Ultimate is defo my new best friend......seriously, I really notice the difference.

There are both Shell and BP garages less than half a mile from me so I'm spoilt for choice! Believe it or not the BP garage has dropped it's price of Ultimate to the same as Optimax (79.9p/L) so it's just a case of seeing if there's any percievable difference.

One thing's certain, it will keep the octane booster companies in business.

probably sum thing to do with the millions of threads on here raving about the new 100 ron fuel that never emerged

so the basic thing is, lower calorific value, higher octane = nice and smooth but how much power??? I don't know coz we've not got it this far north yet but i'm sticking with optimax so far
