Just wondering what the switch in the centre of the top of steering column is?... It has a picture of a Windows on it, behind the steering wheel... This is on a 98 R UK Impreza.

I've flicked it back and forth but nothing happens?!....

(I didn't get a manual with the car)

Matt.

Cool

It switches on the 'please leave the sidelights on whilst the engine is off' function

You'll find the lights go off when the ignition does, but this switch allows override for sidelights only ....

Many people switch it and then can't get the lights to go off

Wink

It's also known as the "drain battery overnight" switch

I'm leaving it switched off! I was quite pleased to notice the lights turn off with the ignition - like all cars should!

It's too easy to start relying on the ignition to turn the lights off though... I've often left the lights on, and not noticed in the morning - must look like a prat with lights on in broad daylight.

Switch em off.
You'll help stop the bulbs in the interior switches blowing, when you switch the iginition back on.
I'm no sparky - but its summut to do with electrical spikes.

aye

Helps you see the deers as they wonder onto the road when you are doing 130 mph (on private road of course)

Seriously it makes a massive difference when people are waiting to pull out of a junction and you are heading towards them. It makes them think twice about "nipping out" in front of you.

all valid points but i leave mine on the whole time, if you think in the long run when some fool hits you or you hit them because they pull out on you, you can say quote: how the hell did you not see me i had my lights on !

result : instant insurance pay out!
