I found that I got better pick up when I fitted one at the same time as porting my headers. I used a Graham Goode stainless pipe and it is now for sale at £50 (£100 new) complete with heat wrap and adaptor for an exhaust temperature gauge. I removed it because I fitted tubular headers.

Scooby-si, I've fitted one of the scoobysport up-pipes, and I found it was a bit of a tighter fit.

Luckily, I put the new one on with the engine out, I can imagine it to be a pain to fit with the engine in the car. I did take the whole exhaust system out with the engine in, and had to raise the right side about 3 inches to get it out.

WUZ mentioned that he struggled to fit one when I was in the car, and I think he also had to jack the engine to get it in/out.

As for performance difference, I think you'll only see a noticeable difference on the >2001 scoobs, where it replaces the cat, although scoobysport say

This improvement in manifold efficiency has the added bonus of reducing both cylinder and exhaust gas temperatures. Because of this, we strongly recommend the use of the ScoobySport up pipe if the vehicle is fitted with an up rated ECU.

Just fitted some Gruppe-s headers & up pipe on MY94 Uk & had to release the o/s engine mount & jack the engine up to get the up-pipe in, Would not go in otherwise

I fitted and removed the GGR pipe and fitted the gruppe-s pipe without moving the engine (MY98). The pipes go in fine from underneath. The GGR pipe was slightly more fiddly due to its using bolts instead of studs but, again, it's perfectly possible with a little bit of patience although it helps if you have small hands

Nothing wrong with fitting a downpipe at all - does not normally require any re-tuning after either. If you do overboost and get fuel cut just go back to where you had it done and they will sort it out for you. Had mine done MY99 and No problems at all since..Makes a difference to the car. Wanted to keep the sound so didnt go for equal length headers.
