Cos they're all rubbish

Actually, it's probably because the UK and indeed European markets aren't as demanding as US and Far Eastern buyers. They expect more from their cars (in value for money and features) so they get nice stuff like that. Not really much use but it adds up. It's the same question as why do we pay a lot more for the cars in the first place - because we put up with the outrageous prices/spec levels imposed by the manufacturers.

Anyway, UK buyers of Imprezas DO get a bright switch. Now I'm jealous...

Because of the British mentality (which thank god is slowy changing), they strip the cars of all the extras, ship them over here, slap on ten thousand quid and tell us it's been "specially altered for the British market".....my ar*e !!!!!

On MY96 WRX I have the standard folding mirrors. The switch on the dash is a 3 position one, but only 2 of the positions seem to work.

1. Fold mirrors
2. Open mirrors
3. ???

Should the third position be fold mirrors when ignition off and open them again when ignition on??? If so, what's up with my switch? Any ideas before I start to dismantle the thing....

Any input appreciated.

My MY94 WRX has a switch position that doesn't seem to do anything either!

Got the same switch on my STi V.

I wonder if, with the switch in the "fold" or "open" position, it's always drawing current to the motor (with the ignition on) ie. trying to move the mirrors but in the middle position doesn't draw any at all. Probably not but....

Whatever, I think it's normal so I wouldn't worry about it.

It would be cool if I could wire the third position so that they fold up when I activate the alarm

Now where did I put that soldering iron!!

Question

Can anybody tell me why UK cars do not have this feature. Cars made and sold in Japan have this feature but no mainstream british / european cars do.

Same on my sti2, but I have figured out why, thanks to someone "helpfully" putting my wing mirror out for me when they got in.
In the middle positon the circuit is diconnected, but in the other two (in and out) positions, although the motor switches off when the mirrors are in the appropriate positions, if you try to move them by hand the motors will try to move them back. If the switch is in the centre (off) position the mirrors can be moved by hand without the motors doing anything.

There seems to be some sort of cunning safety device as well, as no damage was done to the mirros/motors when mishandled by people I was not quick enough to stop

I think it's just a neat parking position, just like the one on the electric mirror angle adjuster.

Gives you another mirror as well to make sure you have that perfect look in the mornings For those for whom the rear view mirror is just not enough

Every importer in the world is given an equipment list on the cars they order from the factory. I think it happens that IM did not put a tick in the folding-mirrors box, otherwise they will have it in the UK cars.
It is standard on the E-class Merc tho', I think it costs around £200 b4 it became std. This flashy feature is also available in certain prestige European marques.
I think why we have this feature in Asia (it seems to be std on every car sold in HK) is because parking spaces are very tight. For the Americans, I think 'cos some of them are lazy drivers (open roads and yet autobox').

Cool

Hi Guys..

Mercs win with gimmicks and gadjets...

Depends on the model....But when you select reverse, the rear headrests fold down.. and the mirros angle downwards slightly so you can see the kerb... cool
