Can anybody help on this one...

7 months ago i had my dealer track all 4 wheels on my car.. today i find the inside fronts are nearly bald... thats like 12,000 miles later..

apparently the tracking was set to prodrive settings...

is this usual wear or has my dealer screwed up on his tracking !!!

If it was set to the Prodrive settings i would say thats normal, as to get the better handling, you have to trade some tyre wear, and the insides would be the bit to go.

I have experience the same problem on my MY99.
I have covered 10,500 miles from new last December and the fronts have definately seen better days.I spoke to Scoobysports and had the tracking and camber adjusted to their recomended settings to try and dial out some understeer , but I don't think that this affected the wear rate.
As I am about to replace the front tyres I would be interested to hear what tyres you are looking and what sort of prices you have been quoted.

Any changes away from standard settings will increase tyre wear. To dial out understeer you will be scrubbing the inside edge of the tyres. It is perfectly normal.

Well i would like to know of any good replacements... its strange my dads scooby has done 18,000 and has no signs of uneven wear but then he should have normal settings...

do the prodrive settings make that much difference.. they are virtually bald on the inside and about normal on the outside and its only fronts

Not doing Exocet (sic?) missile launches in your scooby may help. Rather than dumping the clutch at 5000 revs, just satisfy yourself with 4000 revs

I've had my MY99 for just over a month now (7000 miles done), I think I'll get about 18,000 out of them.

Most of my miles are motorway miles with a few good blasts down A/B roads.

But boy are they scrubbed at the front (outside)..next service I'll get them to check the alignment etc.

How do the original Bridgestones fair for wear ?

I'm off to the dealer tomorrow to see what they say... the bridgestones seem okay for wear at the back.. just the front which is a problem !!!

if anybody has any more info let me know on why they may scrub on the inside

I know I've said this before but it realy does depend on where you live and what kind of driving you do. Of course wear will increase, regardless of geometry, if you drive like loony, but thats optional. I live in Milton Keynes and have done for some time now, and I have had the same problem on all my cars (RS Turbos, VTI's etc). On my Turbo I get around 5000 from a pair of SO2's, or anything else for that matter, because of the point and shoot nature of MK's roundabouts and dual carriagways. My neighbour in his 5dr gets nearer 20,000 because he covers a wide variety of roads. I don't know where you live jason, but it seems to me the only way to make a Scoobies tyres last is to cover a mix of roads, and swop them round regularly.

Setting up your geometry is always going to be a compromise,just like deciding on soft,or harder compound tyres.
You have to decide what your priorities are,tyre wear,or grip/handling.

Not enough neg' camber,and you wear the outside edges of your tyres,when you give it some stick on the bends.You'll probably suffer from understeer too.

Too much,and you wear the insides, but if like me,most of your driving is a/b roads,with very little m/way,too much is never enough(Leda had to rework my dampers so that I could get between 2/3 deg' neg').
I have still had to swap the tyres front to back,at about 4.5k mls use.The outside edges were starting to look very worn.

Only done 600 miles so far in my RB5 but was in Extreme Motor Sport today and for curiosity asked what a new set of P0s were - just under £600, and about £100 cheaper for Yokahamas (spelling?). They said the latter were softer and would not last so long. I think swopping wheels around is the best bet to even out tyre wear, or even turning them on the rims (cost about £5 a tyre from a friendly tyre shop) unless like the P0s they are assymetric. I know what this means but what is the effect of the assymetric tread anyone?

£600 is very expensive for a set of P Zeros. Even up here in Aberdeen I can get them all fitted (including the VAT, valve & balance) for not much more than 100 quid each!

I believe places like Micheldever will be even cheaper, so it's worth phoning around and haggling, even if it does mean a long(ish) journey to get them fitted

On the subject of tyre wear, after Donnington the outside edge of my front left tyre (now back left) is very low on tread. Does this make the tyre illegal? I'd rather not have to replace all four just because the edge of one tyre is 'bald'. I think I also get the geometry settings checked.

I a having some Avon ZZ1 fitted in about 5 weeks 11,000 miles and I`ve shagged the tyres out, fun though. Motorway tyres in dunstable are doing these for £78.00 each, they are supposed to be really good in the wet, they also have a center band on the tyre to stop tram lining.
