Hi Kc,
There have been a couple of problems occure with the Ramair filter.First I would suggest that you squeeze out most of the excess oil.
It can clog up the air flow meter and cause various running problems as it gets sucked through the air intake system.It also tends to drip from the airbox,and deposit itself around the engine bay !!!
Make sure it's fitted correctly(tricky)they have a habit of being sucked out of place !

This sounds a bit nasty. Anyone else found this a problem? I am just about to buy a Ramair. What about these new ITG filters (Pete?) are they polyomer based? Anybody know price and availability yet?

Hi Richard

All foam filters must use an oil as a dust retention media.

The ITG one's use a diffent grade to Ramair and it seem to stay in the filter, rather than leak out everywhere.

ITG's are £47.00 including delivery.

How dry should it be before putting in ???

Anymore ideas on the amount of polyomer that is dripping off the Ramair? Have other people just put it in dripping?

Fitted the filter and then a couple of days later took a friend out for a spin. Popped the bonnet to see a pool of blue gunk under the air box (next to the ABS) .... few nervous moments.

I have just put scans of the cleaning instructions for the Ramair on my web site, address to follow, these say after cleaning and re-applying of the polymer to let it dry for 6-8 hours or use a hot air blower to speed it up, this i would assume means the air filter should be treated the same when taken out of the wrapping.

Pete - is the polymer thing going to apply to the ITG filters as well or have they made theirs work without resorting to the chemistry lab... ?

I inspected my ramair at easter and noted the deformation at one end. By the time I had straightened it out and replaced it I was covered in the oil.
I was at Scoobysport on Saturday and has the ITG filter fitted instead. Its a better design with a wire mesh across the panel giving it extra support.
From what I remember it wasnt coated in oil like the ramair one. Though I only inspected it in the package.
Peter had a good number of these on-premesis.

ITG's do use an oil, but it is lighter than the Ramair stuff and the application seems to be much better (doesn't give the impression that they dipped it in a bucket).
