Yes the engine will give more oomph with the cold dense air in winter, but it doesn't matter what the weather was doing when the map was done, as the mapping is for optimum performance at a given matrix of conditions and not just the current conditions.
Imagine it like this ... you know that you're going in for a brain transplant, so you have to write down a set of rules for what clothes to wear (as you won't remember after the transplant)
Hot, dry, sunny : T-shirt, shorts & sandals
Hot, wet, sunny : T-shirt, shorts & sandals
Mild, dry, sunny : Shirt, jeans, shoes & socks
Cold, wet, cloudy: Jumper, coat, jeans, boots, socks & umbrella
Each day after the transplant, you wake up and look at the weather outside, then look at your list (or map) to see what to wear. Unsurprisingly, the details of what to wear changes as the conditions change, but the map would be the same whatever time of year you actually wrote it.

It shouldn't, because remapping is really just giving the car a revised set of instructions for what to do when a given combination of conditions occur (load, temperature, throttle pos., etc).
The fact that you're currently at one end of a sliding scale (in terms of temperature) doesn't affect the values that are put in, just which bit of the map gets hit on that particular day.
AFAIK

Of course it will, if the ambient temperature is lower then the airflow into your intercooler is lower and subseqently you will run higher BHP due to the colder air on intake.
Thats why Turbo cars lose power on warm days.

what im actually getting at is if your car is mapped to the optimum settings on a cold day what effect would that have to performance on a warm day, besides the air charge being less dense dut to higher temps?

Charge temp is a major factor in the onset of detonation. If you map a car to the edge of detonation in cool weather then it WILL det in warmer weather. Our cars do not have any form of IAT compensation over Fuelling or Timing.
Professional mappers do not map customers cars to this level and will leave a good safety margin.

Speaking for myself only (can't comment on others), you need to map a car to suit the prevalant conditions ALLOWING for the extremes so I use a different air fuel ratio dependant on conditions and pull back from the det line by a different amount due to same. That way you "should" get the best from the car when conditions suit but not get problems in hot sticky weather, for example.
A turbo car can vary 40 bhp summer to winter depending on state of tune.

Stu , his question was will it post better results due to the outside temparature and i replied yes it will, differences of upto 40 bhp have been quoted by an expert based on weather conditions.I'm aware that only 1 map can be running at any 1 time thats why the mappers build safety into the map to allow for the different weather conditions and driving styles.
Mapping for dummies, i might laugh eventually.
