Owygen Sensor - How Many Wires?
#1
i have a 93 wrx, my o2 sensor (lambda) is at the bottom of me down pipe (i think that the one!) and the wire(s) have a silver metal casing round them. So i am unable to tell how many wires there are 2 it. As you follow the wire up to the engine bay, it goes to a white round connecting block.
Now then that has a black wire and a red/black wire going into it. Do these wires carry onto the sensor or does it change.
I ordered a universal one from halfords yesterday and they sent a single wired one - is this correct or not (cost me £48 not 30/40 as advised b4!)

What you need is the Hotwires Universal Oxygen Sensor Part No. L300, Halfords Code 180398. It's a 3 wire zirconia sensor.
IIRC, the 3 wires on the standard sensor are black, red and white (?) and the universal sensor has 2 white and 1 black wire. Connect the white wire on your wiring harness to the black wire on the new sensor and the black and red wires go to the white wires on the new sensor.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong (but I think thats how I did mine, I'll check tomorrow)
Mine was £25

Sorry mate but your car will be fitted with a Titania sensor.Do not fit a universal Zirconia type as it is not compatible .
The RED wire is very important!!(the red wire is heater(+)and ref(in),black is signal and white is heater(-)
The signal to the ECU is very different for each type of sensor.
Later cars are fitted with the type that has a black and 2 white wires.(the white wires are the heater circuit and the black wire is the signal)
Here are the LUCAS part numbers ...
Zirconia 3 wire SEB123 (1 black,2 white wires)
Titania 3 wire SEB230 (1 black,1 red,1 white wire)
The lamda sensor is fitted to the drivers side front manifold(visible..JUST if you look from the front of the car by the undertray.
(there is a 2 wire sensor fitted in the downpipe next to the front cat...this is a heat sensor for telling you if the cat is too hot...this can be disconnected if you go the full DE-CAT route.)
Hope this helps!!!
steve.

Hi Lads
I've just this minute got back from halfords with an L300
universal sensor. I don't think they last as long as the OE spec
last one 18months but at £25 who cares?
The last time it had a diagnostic and actually stated a 3 wire zirconia
replacement (wrx 92). So Hopefully just saved £140.
i let you know if it sorts the problem.

Notorious, are there different systems on imports etc, because you can not interchange a titania sensor for a zirconia one, titania run off a base voltage supplied by the engine ECU, the resultant voltage flowing through the senosor is the read by the ECU to adjust the mixture. the zirconia system uses diffs in o2 ions to generate its own voltage which is read as a cross count by the ECU which then adjust fuelling.
I hope to hell I am right here the co. I represent makes the bloody things!!

I thought the 2 extra wires on the OEM O2 sensor are used to heat the lambda when cold. Otherwise how does a Lambda Link work on other models of cars, if the input voltage from ECU is continually changing. I also have a universal Lambda from cat direct and not had a problem with it ?
