People who have been on the SIDC BBS may recall that sunroofs are a pet hate of mine.

Why?

1. They all leak sooner or later.
2. They trap water and encourage rust.
3. They add weight where you least need it.
4. They cost money which can be better spent on beer, ****, loose women and petrol not necessarily in that order of preference).

Well today I stripped the entire sunroof out of a Honda CRX (sad I know) because the damn thing is leaking. Out came the outer panel, motor, inner "drip tray" and all the associated Heath Robinson linkages and wiring. Just out of curiosity I weighed the whole ghastly edifice. 11 kilos! Probably more before the rust holes. I suspect that any steel sliding sunroof would weigh about the same.

I'm toying with the idea of making a carbon fibre blanking plate to fill the hole (phnar phnar).

PS I don't really like converibles either. Silly idea.

I don't have a pet hate, I have a real major hate..........

THE PRICE OF PETROL!

Not because it's so high, but because it's so 'bloody high' thanks to the 400% tax imposed on it.
Furthermore, the insistance of the government to impose this tax for so called environmental reasons, when really it's because they know they can do it, and us motorists will stay quiet and just keep on buying it because there is no bloody alternative!

 

Pet hates, where will I start ?

Caravans.
Anyone who owns a caravan
"Baby on board" car stickers
Car sales people.
Middle lane motorway drivers
Anyone claiming the Scooby is faster than it really is.
Caravans
People who dither
Boyz to Men
Any of these Boyz to Men, Toni Braxton etc type singers who think that every word ,no matter how short, should be sung using every note in the octave.
Political correctness.

Not mine, but it would appear that somebody has a bit of a pet hate for fast Imprezas combined with heavy lift military aircraft at the moment.

 

At the risk of getting back on the thread, I'd like to add a some more to the sunroof list -
5.they reduce headroom by at least an inch
6.they reduce the strength and torsional rigidity of the car.

 

They are also the poorest way to keep cool in summer, heat beating down on head, Bright sunlight causing visibility problems.

I hate:

1) Centre lane hoggers on the motorway
2) Taxi & bus drivers.
3) I (then a picture of a heart) canada (or wherever), well p*ss off back there then.
4) Wife beaters.
5) Politicians (cos they talk more crap than I do).
6) Speed kills campagns. (lies damned lies & statistics).
7) traffic calming schemes, because they don't.
8) Chancellor of the exchequor (see Imran on petrol).

I'm sure I'll learn to love my Scooby (when it eventually arrives!!!!!), despite the sunroff, but if I only have one bullet left I'd save it for the inventor of shrink wrapping!
