NGK PFR 6B These are the spark plugs that we fit to all imprezas
the easy way to fit them is take it to a garage because they are akward and are easy to cross thread

Subaru Manchester, are you anything to do with Hynes? Are you a dealership or similar? Just humour me if I'm getting confused etc.

ps. I'm in a red 97MY (post facelift) Turbo reg H1 RPV, Central Manchester area - you?

pps. Yeah, NGK are the recommended sparks.

Dobbo.

My understanding is that subaru manchester is C&K Motor Engineers, (rolling road tuning specialists) Manchester.

There's a translation of some useful bits of the Jap impreza manual at http://www.cerbera.co.uk/subaru/Default.htm

select "japanese manual translation" under the "sources of information" header.

This recommends PFR8B for the wrx?

Dave, do you find the PFR6Bs are ok? - I tried them in my '95 STi V2 type RA and they wore out in less than 3,500 miles - does this mean there's something dodgy with my ignition/mixture? I use 98 RON. I know the cars got a weird ignition with like a little individual coil for each plug - i don't know if this is the same as all imprezas?

I got 8s put in last month so its too early to tell how they're lasting.

I'm not sure what the difference between a 6 & 8 is, tho. i think it might be to do with the heat range.

i agree fitting is very tricky - and expensive if you cross-thread 'em.

From a reliable source - PFR8B - mostly town driving. PFR7B - mostly motorway. The latter being a slightly cooler plug, but would foul up in stop and start traffic.

At the "dyno day" last Saturday (Power Engineering, UK), my car (UK MY97) misfired a bit at around 6,500 rpm. Power Engineering said this was a common problem when running higher than usual boost if the plugs were on their way out.
Mark McE - when you say yours wore out after 3,500 miles - what were the symptoms? Misfires? Anyone else had misfires?
Thanks.

Yeah, occasional misfire, generally not quite as sharp pick up, rough running from a cold start. Just doesn't feel quite "right".
