Hello,

I'm about to buy a 1993 L reg Subaru Impreza GL 4WD Estate 1.8I, it has
145,000 miles on the clock with a full (Except last full service and
cam
belt) Subaru service history for £2500, does this seem a fair price to
you. I'm hopefully buying it from work as I'm a BMW technician and it's
a trade in, I've had a good look round it and it seems solid enough,
it's drives better than a BMW 3 series in my opinion. Is there any
problems that these cars suffer from and do you think I'll have any
Engine or drive train problems in the near future considering the
mileage.

Do you know of any internet sites that will have an on line Handbook
for
the car as it's missing.

Electrically everything works except the Headlamp washers, when the
switch is operated the headlamps dim so I suspect a seized Pump or
something, it has a slight oil leak from gearbox, exhaust looks a
little
rusty, the brakes could do with adjusting as the pedal seems to go down
quite a way (could be normal for this car), cam cover gaskets slight
leak apart from those few minor problems which I'll will look at myself
it seems a good buy.

Also what does the switch above the steering cowling do, I can't
remember what it's called.

What do you think ?

Thanks

Tony

Spongy brakes are quite normal for the Impreza. Engines and transimission can withstand loads of miles without problem if they have been looked after OK.

My headlamps dim when the washers operate as well, but I'm not sure if it's the water spraying on them, or whether they do actually dim.

The switch above the cowling actives the parking lights - ie switches on the sidelights and rear lights. Your lights switch off with the ignition, so no need to worry about flat batteries.
