Do you think upgrading the std Intercooler hoses to Samco ones is worth it, will it give better air flow and hold boost better ?..

They will look better, but that probably about it. You will need to use a larger diameter pipe to increase airflow etc.

IMO Apart from looking better than the standard pipes, they will only help if your increasing the boost pressure ie. fitting a upgraded ECU / dawes etc..

Agree with Scooby Towers, unless you increase the boost levels dont bother, unless cosmetics are important.

What about the effect of smoother airflow through the Y-pipe, doesn't this improve throttle response and reduce pressure losses between the compressor and throttle body?

Alot of the US site claim a 4-5BHP increase with new hoses like Samco, Perrin.

No noticeable difference at all when these are fitted, they will quote anything to make you buy them,yes the airflow must be smoother but you cant tell by the throttle response,they are less likely to balloon under pressure or split which the Y shaped OE item under your intercooler can do if you increase the boost.

PS.If you do go for them they are £74 all in from RA Design.

when i fitted these i noticed 1 psi higher in the 6-7k rpm range, with a ball/spring mbc as boost control.

by their nature you will need to be flowing some cfms to see a difference due to more efficient airflow.

the only downside is that they are not free. the y-pipe, from compressor outlet to ic inlets, is the only one worth swapping really.
