when stuck in traffic for long times will turning the fan on to hot and full blast make the engine have less heat soak? or does it have the opposite effect and make it worse?

You mean heatsoak in the intercooler i take it?
Thats a good theory, however, having the heater on full blast while in traffic would only lower coolant temp by a couple of degrees. it realy would make no differance to intake/intercooler temps im afraid.

Where do you get them from and are they easy to install? Where would be best to put the switch?Think I might get one as I sit in traffic so much.

a) dont sit in traffic.
b) switch on the air con. - extra fan will force more air through the engine bay.
c) fit water injection.

Double-edged sword. Using the aircon will also make the engine work harder - producing more heat in the process. If you consider this an option, the manual fan switch is a much more elegant way of producing the same effect.
