Question

Just been out polishing car and thought I'd check the oil and water etc.

While standing admiring the engine I noticed a second dipstick hidden away at the back left. Whats it for? How do I fill it and what do I fill it with???? The level of Oil I think is dead on the L.

I have a very gleaming black MY93.

Oh and should i be aware of any other unmark dispsticks in the car??

Richard

Sounds like the Gearbox Oil to me from the location that you have described.

You fill the gearbox thru the dipstick tube.
Either use a funnel with a rubber tube or get a funnel from halfords or the like with a flexi tube on it...

Eh? "Left" and "Right" on a car are taken when you're sitting in the driving seat, so I take it this dipstick is really on the right (i.e. driver's side)?

All gearbox oils are not the same. For starters you need 75w/90, as has been mentioned above. Quality oils like Castrol Syntrax, Mobil 1 SHC and Silkolene Syn5 tend to be highly thought of, but if you're just topping up, pretty much any 75/90 from a well regarded brand will do the job.

Incidentally, you do have a manual gearbox, yes? If so, that's the only "extra" dipstick you should find, but of course there's also oil in the rear differential, which needs to be checked occasionally.

BTW, gotta ask; how long have you had the car?!
