Is your car a UK or an import? The belts are different. I ended up paying a stupid amount of money to Graham Goode Racing for my WRX grooved belt rather than £3 in Halfords for a thin, toothed jobbie.

The PAS belt also drives the alternator, so that explains the battery light. Don't forget that while you're driving in this state all the engine/lighting etc. demands will be supplied by the battery, which won't be receiving a charge, so sooner or later it'll go flat leaving you stranded - be careful!
You should be able to get a belt from either a Subaru dealer or somewhere like Halfords for a few quid. Fitting is easy, just loosen off the alternator pivot mount, slacken off the tensioner mount and tension bolt itself. Slip the belt over the three pulleys, retension, and tighten all the bolts.

the belt is easy to change and no you wont drive the car for long as you are running it on the battery instead of the altinator that is why the light has come on . it will flatten the battery quickly
