Question

Dear all,

I have a slight problem which anoyes me very much. My Legacy GT MY92 is reaching max boost 0,4 bar. We traced the fault to the valve on the left side in the engine bay behind airbox which controls the waste gate (the waste gate is oppened too soon!). There are some vacuum and pressure hoses (the one that goes to waste gate valve)clamped on some valves and sensors?

The valve should be activated (that is closed) from the start and when boost reaches 0,8 bar opened to let the pressure open the waste gate.

Now my question is, which device (sensor, ECU?) controls this valve, because the valve itself is working properly (we checked that!).

The funniest thing is that sometimes the car is working as it should (that's in about 20 % of driving distance)!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Kind regards,

Kristijan

ECU drives the boost control solenoid, but the Throttle Position Switch needs to be off it's rest position before it will work.

If you crack open the throttle by hand you should hear the solenoid start ticking.

Also check the lower hose (if it has 3) to make sure the brass restrictor in the pipe is not blocked.

Yes, it has 3 hoses. I'll go and check tomorrow.

If it is controlled by ECU, what are my options if above solution would't be effective?

Thanks for the info!

Thanks for that Webster, but we actually removed the Dawes device as I want to run the car standard. It's one of those first owner's nice kept cars, also it has 230.000km, about 145.000 miles and I don't want to risk anything.
