Dealer wont sell me a gasket
#1
Just rung up a Subaru dealership and they wouldnt sell me a gasket because my car was an import. I thought they had stopped all that $hit a while ago ??
Are all dealerships like that, or did i just pick the wrong one ?

UK dealers in general are complete knobbers towards people with imports.... I wasn't sure how to get to the back speakers in my car without breaking stuff, I asked at a garage and they refused to tell me!

My local dealer have told me that they would love to service imports but Subaru UK refuse to let them. I still buy my servicing bits from them though Never asked for a chassis number yet

I think the first guy I spoke to was just being a *****. The second dealers I rung, I asked the question directly, do you sell parts for imports? no probs, what you got? That is the answer I would expect from anyone trying to run a business.
I know where I will go in future !

Phone them up, and tell them that they just lost a £xxxx sale, as it wasnt just a gasket you were after.
They must be rolling in money to just refuse to sell parts to a customer like that.

Unfortunately far too many of them are rolling in money, as there aren't that many Subaru dealers in the UK, and they're fairly well spaced across the country, and thus many of them have large captive audiences, and no direct competition from the other Subaru dealer on the other side of town...
Be that as it may, there are plenty of good eggs about. My local dealers will go out of their way to help, and whenever they need to put a VIN number into the computer to order parts for me, they just use the number of the nearest UK spec car in the service bay

You might want to give your local Trading Standards a call and explain the situation to them. They're generally quite helpful, and in the case of buying a part that's the same on UK and Japanese models, they should be able to advise on whether they have any reason to be so obstructive.
Not that I've needed to get anything, but my local Subaru dealer is happy to get parts ordered from Japan if necessary. However, they're also an Isuzu, Hyundai and Skoda dealer, so maybe a bit more independant than some Subaru only dealers?
Rich.
