I have a MY95 WRX and it does the same but usually only in the wet (for some reason). Had the car on the ramp and my mechanic says its the bushes which need replacing so will be ordering up soon. Have already replaced fronts with powerflex bushes cos of knocking there and it was cured - might be worth trying.

help have had my MY95 Import WRX for a week mow and has a progerssive knocking noise- sounds like the exhaust is knocking against some thing and its coming from the rear passenger side of the car but only happens at speeds of 40mph or lower,

tried the exhaust before and it has a bit of play but i imagine it would be more with the weight of the car whens it moving

any suggestions please?

 

Rear Anti Roll Bar drop links could be the reason. Worth a check plus these are cheap to replace and can also be a DIY job too.

Sounds like rear strut top hats, the bushes flog out especially if you have stiffened up your suspension

 

I had same noise and it was the ARB bushes. They seemed ok when the car was compressing the suspension but as soon as it was jacked up you could see the play in them. I replaced them with whiteline ones (£31 a pair from demon tweeks) and the noise has gone, plus the car now corners better too

 

well car cant go in for another week so will it be ok till then?

 

Mine knocked for months so should be fine, just take it easy until you confirm what it is.

 

thanks guys it only makes the noise at low speeds i took it back to the dealer and they said they could hear a slight knocking but they drove it twice to confirm this but the sound is so obvious and you can hear it outside the car so i guess they were playing hard ball and niot admitting to anyone so as far as i know they will fix it free of charge just gotta wait.....as usual! lol
