are you sure they connected all the pipes the right way round? i.e. are you getting more than 7psi boost (actuator pressure) ?? if they didnt, you may not be be getting the kick you're used to coz there isnt any boost !? got a boost gauge ? some people run on actuator pressure when running in to limit the max boost you get (& if the turbos new??)

Just had a new engine fitted to my O2 STI and just run in when I go past 3500 rpm there is no kick in the back like there used to be - can the subaru fellas at the garage put some kind of restrictor in to limit it. It just seems so slow

Why did the old one let go? (was it overboosting and detting its knackers off?) They can often feel really quick just before they go bang if they are lean and advanced like an advanced thing.....

Not sure why it let go - I had a turboXS boost device on to run 1.2 and it was on the track at the time!!!!
When they had stripped the engine down one of the pistons had little cuts along the outside ridge and the bore was destroyed, the crown of the piston was dark brown on one side, although I suspect that it had burning oil and it was this that caused the brown colour.
Needless to say I am rather worried about putting the boost device back on and no I do not have a boost gauge fitted although this will be sorted out asap.
I think that I will go along the route of a re-map and am only sorry that John Banks lives so far away from me.
The only other mods the car had were HKS hiper back box, ITG Panel filter and HKS Iridium plugs which I suspect the mechanics have nicked when fitting the new motor.
If the car was this slow when I bought it I would not have bought it - there must be some explanation - can 0.3 bar really make that much difference?
It is going back in and I am going to ask them to do a full diagnostic on it and will keep you informed.

Ian, did the garage do the engine swap under warranty? Is it a UK car? If so you were very lucky IMHO that they didn't void the warranty with the boost device and exhaust BB fitted...
Doesn't help you with your lack of power though, sorry.

Look something like this? Subaru Australia refused the warranty on this '03 motor as they noticed a photo of the car on the cover of the WRX owners club magazine hooning around Wannaroo Circuit with an article written by the owner in the mag on how to remove the standard airbox...

Damn lucky.
Saved yourself about £5k then.
My only advice is get the PPP, and retain the warranty.
