boost pressures

can anyone help me , just got my self a 94wrx was told engine and turbo standard etc exept for full decat 3"mongoose exhaust, adjustable pressure regulator ,induction air filter ,super chipped and apparantly running at 17.5 psi but no boost gauge to clarify yet,the problem is under heavy accelaration the car seems to judder and hold back sometimes violently chugging , mainly in second gear up over, thinking of getting it tuned to basically pick there brains as to what it can be ,does anyone have any ideas ,as its very frustrating could i be overboosting or something, i really need help

I think it sounds like it is hitting the fuel cut (overboost)if its cutting violently especially in higher gears. Ideally you need to fit a boost gauge to see what it is running. Also other members will possibly suggest the removal of the superchip. It would probably be safer to run a scoobyecu rather than the superchip.

Thanx alot, a boost gauge is next on the list ,is it a big job to remove the supachip, and is it really advisable i do that ,ill miss all that potential power, boo hoo

I may be wrong but I think the superchip is 'hardwired' with a bleed v/v to the actuator. I presume your MY94WRX is an import? If so what fuel are you using? When modifying scoobs another necessary mod to fit is a Knocklink. With you're current setup I should think the engine is 'Detting' big time so the loss of the power you are talking about may save you big-bucks in the long term.

is all I have to say here.
No, it isn't actually
Very very iffy. JDMs don't take kindly to any fiddling with boost or air flow, as they are set up for the Jap fuel for starters. Even standard JDMs sometimes - like in hot weather - have problems with controlling det (therefore heat & so on).
Safest thing to do is remove the Superchip & get a remap (possibly needs a new ECU for that year/model?) for UK fuel (preferably Optimax).
IMHO, as an immediate thing, drive very daintily, certainly until you fill up with SUL/Optimax & bung in a double amount of octane booster - with all that stuff on the car you want as much help as you can get! Then remove the Superchip. The rest may be OK with enough booster, although if I were you I'd get a KnockLink or similar as well as a boost gauge, as possibly also an AFR meter.
But largely, stop driving like a nutter until it's sorted or you could have quite a bill...

As a minimum you should be using super-unleaded with octane booster but as you're boost is not standard it would be advisable to use optimax and octane booster. Due to the increased boost it would also be advisable to fit a gauge and a Knocklink with the latter giving indication of Detonation. Hope this helps.
