I'm pretty sure the Impreza doesn't have an air temp sensor....maybe they mean Coolant temp sensor...I'm sure someone more in the know will tell you a bit more. But if it does trick the ecu into thinking its cooler than it is thus giving a bit more fuel, that won't give you a power increase most probably it will slightly reduce power.....

Where the MAF sensor is located there is normally a thermistor which measures the incoming air temperature(Ambient outside temperature). The mod suggested doesn't look like a good idea.

The mod itself is a small resistor that tells your engine control unit (ecu) that all of the air coming into the engine is cold and therefore dense and packed with oxygen. The ecu then takes this info and tells the injectors to fuel slightly more. This in turn makes for a more powerful detonation in the cylinders and releases the full potential of your engine
Isn't normal detonation bad enough?

I guess it might work slightly if the ecu as standard runs the engine very lean and there is excess air in the engine to accomodate the extra fuel. 20bhp? In your dreams.

Hmmmm,

£6.50 for a 1pence resistor???

I acutally did a similar mod to my XR3i (130bhp zetec) Because the coolant temp sensor leaned the engine off too much in hot weather and I could'nt be bothered with fitting a new sensor.

Would'nt dream of doing it to the scoob. No No No!
