Question

Thanks to MONEY for the group buy, I have now fitted a knock link to my MYOO. 1 light comes on about 5000 rpm, 2nd green comes on just before redline - so all ok there.

Question is, do I need an AFR/Lambda link as well? I know det is the big engine killer (hence the KL), but is it possible to get a dangerously lean AFR without it resulting in det?

Thanks

Dave

Question

Is your car modified in any way (silly question really ) but a modified car (depending on how modified) would just be better off running octane booster and super unleaded, you can still get lean spots though, and with lean spots (very lean spots) you will get det.
John Banks is probably the best person to talk to about this

Dave

John advised me I only needed a KL, because as you said, the end result of lean AFRs is det. I do however also have deltadash to intermittently log my AFRs, say after increasing the boost or altering the fuelcut defend point.

Cheers

An AFR can be used to tell you more than if your running lean at WOT. It can show you if your lambda sensor is working correctly, it would show signs of the MAF going (which the KL would pick up to but only after its started to det), if the fueling is actually going closed loop (which mine did not at one point due to a £5 value) etc. For only £85 why not?

The only thing with Lambda link is that it's like a disco on normal driving! The lights flash up and down the range as the car idles, you lift off and it goes rich for a split second etc.

Anyone else find this a PITA? For it to be effective it really needs to be in your line of sight so it's quite distracting.

I've made a John Banks special, with only 3 LEDs for 830, 850 and 870mV, and have mounted them in a switch blanking plate to fit beside the foglight switches. Hence no knight rider effect, easily visible but not right in my line of sight. Not fitted it yet - built more as a little project, the above question was to decide if it's worth fitting it!

Why not get a Dawes AFR and fit it where I put mine...

No disco lights at night for me! (Unless I'm in party mood )

But if you smoke..... Give Up!
