What coolant temperature (or range) is safe/normal for my WRX to operate at (MY03 WRX)?
Just fitted my newly delivered SECS unit (excellent ) today and I keep getting an alarm re: the coolant temp with the units default alarm settings (which are at 95 degrees IIRC) - so far today (sitting in traffic, fairly hot day, unfortunately fairly short trips lol) my peak temp is 99 degrees.
I'm assuming that this is probably ok considering the conditions etc, and if so I was just wondering what I should set the alarm at.
I dont want to 'live life on the edge' with it (ie set it at the absolute max) so what would be a very safe figure to set it at?
Sorry if this is a really stupid question for some of you - I have no idea on this kind of thing (yet!!) and a search was rather unproductive.
Many thanks for any help,
John

Mine tends to settle around 90/91, when moving this should be pretty constant controlled by the thermostat opening and closing, but in traffic it will increase a good few deg before the fan kicks in. The secondary fan kicks in if the temp keeps rising. AFAIK this happens at over 96deg, so the car should be fine at those temps.
I'd maybe go for around 98deg although I believe it's not abnormal to go to 100deg in some conditions, the coolant mixture raises the boiling point anyway.

Cheers Paul
Since the other day it has been a few degrees lower actually, so it must have just been the conditions that day (ie hot, lots of traffic etc....)
Thanks for your reply,
John
