Get the car this weekend
so I want to be prepared

Can anyone let me know the best place to get the following items ?

1) Fuel neck restrictor
2) Replacement dial for speedo ( cant use the mechanical version as it is an auto)
3) Anyone know how to change the (spare)reversing light into a fog light, and if so which light do i change, or is it easier to just bolt a new one on ?

Is there anything ive forgotten from the list ?

ESVA

You seem to be getting the main things done. Just make sure:

There is no blue bulbs in the headlights
Replace the Nardi with another steering wheel cause apparently it will fail on this
If you have a big exhaust, change it for a standard one

No i dont mate. I was told by the guy who carried out the sva test on mine that it would fail as it was Nardi and something about it being metal in the middle.

I just managed to borrow a steering wheel from the garage and replaced it for the day.

I think most of the imports come over with the Nardi. I never heard of people changing them. But mine was done in December and the agent said i had to

Sticky, Chocky; were your Nardi's the type with metal spokes to the centre hub; or fully covered ??

Cheers

Paul, i think there are a couple of guys around wiltshire,
cant remember their usernames tho.
Re tyres : Make sure they have correct speed rating for the
max speed you put on the sva form. If you de-limit it from 112 mph,
your max speed is somewhere near 143.5 mph (i think.)
(obviously stock not modded) Toyo proxes have a rating in excess of 150.Also fit right tyres for wheels so that the rolling circumference is not changed, otherwise this may put your speedo out of limits, you have an allowance to read over, but must not read under.(i think i've got that right way round)

Re knocklink : Apparently sva testers do not like gauges etc to be fitted. So i would wait until after the test to fit it.

Really depends what year Paul. I think <98 were 15" as standard.

this page has a calculator half-way down
http://www.chris-longhurst.com/carbi...yre_bible.html

I beleive this was the standard size for MY97 or older
195*60*15, using the calculator you will see what you need to do to compare.(and which sizes you should use)

Sticky Micky and Chocy, when did you import your car?

Maybe mine was a different Nardi and thats why it was going to fail??

My95 passed last month with a 3spoke nardi on, with metal showing, inspector never mentioned it.
Got my stuff from Import Solutions, they have a web site, fuel res £12, fog light £10, etc.Fitted my fog under bumper but must be on a proper bracket so it cannot be easily removed after test.
Inspector told me the light cluster carnt be used as the fog light in it is not uk spec.
All wires to light must be sleeved properly a common failiure point,or if u put a alarm on sleeve all wires.
If tyres have a E on them they should be ok mine had jap YOKOS on passed no prob, thats about all u ned
Good Luck

My car passed with a Nardi steering wheel no problem here..

My Drager back box failed, due to the fact that the tail end wasn't radised and extended beyond the floor pan..

It also failed on the wheel nuts, being the wrong type... how the hell the tester knew that I don't know..!! so changed them..

Also, make sure your fuel neck restrictor is firmly locked in...

Check all wiring secured/duck taped down... even in the boot compartment.. as my mine failed on this as well..

I had a clipped on wide interior mirror, on top of the original item, and it failed on that as well...

Headlight pattern wasn't correct and too high, another failure.. suggest you have your one checked out.....

I added a rear fog light, which was straight forward... but failed originally as it was about 2cm too low..

The tester took just over 3hrs inspecting my vehicle, and he was very thorough with everything.. he knew his Subaru's...

Other than that it was straight forward.. NOT..!!!

Best of luck with yours...

OJ..

Agree with OJ mine failed on a number of similar things, ie exhaust edging, fog lamp to low and the wiring in the boot.
Passed with Nardi S/W and engine light on/off !
Don't remember him checking the wheel nuts

Expect to fail first time if you doing the preparation youself.
Which testing station ?

Best of Luck

Ring them Paul, your preferable test centre that is.
They can give you an approx lead time.

Hi All Again,
im filling in the sva from and are missing a few deatils.

is it a 4x4 with seperate chassis ?
what are the design weights, are these really needed as it is a standard production vehicle
maximum power engine speed ?
i have put the max speed at 112mph as it is limited, is this correct ?

Cheers all again and thanks for your help

Hi Paul,

1. No , its not a 4*4 with separate chassis

2. You should not need to put design weights on the form, as this is only required if its a certain type of vehicle,
(its on the form)

3. This max speed would be correct if your speedo converter doesnt lift the limit, SOME DO. you will have to check the type with your supplier.
If you have the type that does, all you will have to do to the speedo fascia, is an mph transfer, which should be supplied with the converter.
Remember if the limit is lifted to get the correct speed rated tyres.

Hi Mickey, it probably depends on your area,
When i first approached Exeter centre for lead time, they said it was 3 weeks. So looks like your not too far out.
