Wanted to order an ITG panel filter for my MY96 sti. Scoobysport are now saying the green cotton filter is much better for the MAF. What do you guys/gals think?

I kinda realised that Si and anticipated your reply
but....if they are being quoted correctly by coulty is this an admission that the gooey ITG can cause problems with MAF. I don't think so, so again I ask
and the reason for this is??

I had a ramair panel in (old owner did it) and then had a K&N57i on..
great noise.. but on investigation the Green panel *seems* to be a little better.. (cooler air from flat panel as opposed to hot air from cone filter?)
mayeb If i had boxed in the K&N (and had a cold air pipe into it) it would have been better, but so far the green panel gets my vote.
and yeah- green panel is cotton (dry) unlike most other panel filters.. (oiled)

The big debate was that 'if fitted properly' then the green gunk could not escape to the MAF side but after taking my filter out after 10k and 15k miles on both occasions the green gunk HAD found it's way through to the TOP of the panel filter and therefore under high revs I have little doubt that it COULD get sucked over the MAF
Now...before ITG sue my *** off I have NO way (obviously) of proving this BUT upon cleaning the sensor and housing there WAS suspicious green gunk living all over the MAF.
So having bought a new engine I decided to trust my own judgement and went back to standard OEM paper filtration
I rest my case your honour
Cheers

anyone got anymore info on this please.
Some of the tuners who frequent this board advised me to get ITG. I know these tuners are not selling ITG at their premisises so it gets me wondering, and also a little worried.
btw, I have yet to get my panel filter so the green filter could be the way forward

(Si we most stop quoting each other)

I had a Green panel filter in my WRX for over 2 years with no problems. Still in it now as far as I know.
Think I have problems with the MAF on my sti now, but don't know what filter is in it, will find out tomorrow.
Edited to change MA to MAF, no problems with my ma !

Green Panels and ITG are the same price, and the green is dry. I have used both, but in different cars. But I must say that the green is alot less hassle, and (according to TSL and MoTeC) flows more air than the ITG.
I would buy a green again if I wanted to mod my car...

you must admit that you are in the minority, are you not?
Naw... lets just keep quoting each other
The important thing to remember here is that the MAF on MY99's are so sensitive that ANY contamination is likely to screw the MAF's and as Pete Croney has stated on here a number of times..he has heard of numerous MAF's failing on this year of car using standard filtration
So I guess you've just got to take your chance but IMHO something that is so heavily permeated in green gunk doesn't have it's place next to a very easily contaminated and sensitive piece of kit that when failing....can blow up your engine
PS Any gains from the ITG (with light mods) just ain't worth the hassle. They quote an extra 5bhp but I was extremely sceptical re this as it felt like it had slightly more mid-range oomph at around 80ish but other than that it was negligible

We have switched to selling Green filters as they are superb.
Not only is there zero risk of MAF damage on 99-00 cars (if an ITG is fitted correctly with any excess splodge towelled off, it is also safe), but the flow rates are excellent.
There is no risk of fitting a Green incorrectly as it is dry and rigid so can only seat correctly.
We made the switch because we think they are better, simple as that.

Edited to say that ITG are still the only filters advertised on your website at present but that obviously ain't all you got in stock
Cheers
