Hi all,
Niticed the 94WRX is a mere 240 bhp where the 95 on is 260. Is this purely an ECU related power gain? If so, are they interchangable? Seems like a cheap power mod if so.

the 260hp ecu is probably more like 240 on UK fuel with standard ish car (ie no decat).
It runs about 13.5psi instead of 11.
'96 Prodrive edition was based on 95 WRX ecu with very minor tweaks, but that was on proper 98 RON SUL which has made a difference

So you can swap them? And the difference is the fulleing and boost targets?
I would be running on optimax, with the odd dose of booster.
And some other choice mods

the Z4(260PS) is a much Better ECU than the W6(240ps) that is in your car at the moment
i have run my car on both before i got the apexi fitted and there is no contest.
well worth doing

I used to have a 93WRX with full (scoobysport) decat, ITG and Z4 ECU, got 267bhp at PE. My original ECU went wonky, but never let boost got over 0.9bar. Z4 ecu overboosted to 1.1bar and held 1bar (on the road). Worth doing for £60 I thought....

How come it was only just over 260bhp? I thought with the 260bhp chip and a full decat, you'd be near 280?

because the "260hp" is for a jap car on jap 100RON fuel.
2 RON difference on the octane of the fuel can be easily worth 20hp due to decreased ignition advance (ECU will retard ignition over time on lower octane fuel)
edited to add:
Surely 267 is "just under 270" rather than "just over 260"?

I am dissapointed for you dan, surely that was a formula for 280hp....
Actually it ties up very well with results I've seen for another car with similar spec, that got 270hp on a Z4 with only an induction kit over dan's spec.

On PE's rollers my MY95 WRX with Full decat and K+N panel filter, STD boost ran 267 bhp with SUL and Millars OB. That was on a cold day.
Then running 14.5psi held (on the road) using a Dawes with SUL and 1ml NF I got 283 bhp, again on PE's rollers on a warmer day. This was a long time ago, pre Optimax anyway.
Soon I will see what one of the ScoobyECU thingamybobs will do, when I get round to a PE RR day, oh and when I remove the Dawes - now restricting me @ 14.5psi

Pavlo,
Ta for your email, will give it a think over. The reason I presumed the power figure wasn't more was tht I assumed nearly everyone used SUL and booster in imports.
