MY99 Decat centre section + Scorpion back box.
Car possibly has a Superchip fitted (unconfirmed).
Am I right in thinking the Superchip allows boost to unsafe levels?
If so, what are the symptoms of overboost?
What would I notice if all was not well with the engine because of the Superchip?
Just recently the engine has felt 'lumpy' at low revs and the suspicion of slight hesitancy as boost comes in.

Is something about to let go?

Get yourself a knocklink before you start worring too much and a fuel/air monitor would be a good idea.
I ran one on a uk for ages and no probs.

I know people have had problems with the Superchip for the Fiat Coupe. I know of one person who's car was running lean as a consequence and the engine let go. Get the fueling checked on a rolling road.

Another vote for boost gauge and knocklink.

Boost gauge so you can cut the fuel yourself by lifting off if it overboosts (since the ECU can't).

Knocklink to see if it is detting.

With a healthy fuel pump, regulator, injectors and MAF sensor I don't think you could get a MY99/00 UK car to go lean on the standard turbo because it just won't blow enough air.

However, it could well det and destroy your engine whilst still being rich if the boost goes too high.

Thanks for the replies.
Any pointers as to best boost guage and/or knocklink sensor?
Any pictures of these products in situ - as I'm quite reluctant to alter the interior. I really want the car as standard as possible (but if there is a superchip fitted I can see the sense of monitoring the engine).

Can anyone recommend any good source material to help me learn about what is going on under the bonnet? (As Manuel says,'I know nothing.')

All help greatly appreciated.

Any boost gauge will do. To save me repeating it all there is a link on my website to info on the knocklink plus a load of information on knock and engine tuning with links to suitable reading material. Ignore all the advertising crap
