WRX,

Sorry to slightly hijack your thread, but I tried to extend the warranty of my EU import and the garage said that it wasn't possible.

Could you give me the name of who you spoke to where to discuss extended warranty?

PS - UniCHIP is from PowerStation, amongst others.

Nick.

Impreza engines are not known for their strength when chipping them up. The 3rd piston usually melts. Apart from warranty problems you run a serious risk of running up a bill of several thousands. If its straight line speed you are after an import with a reputible firm would be the answer. If its everyday A and B road extra speed youre after, look into handling mods, or (no offence intended!) book some track time or tuition. It will make the world of difference to improved real time performance without ruining your engine

Pete,

It seems that it's more down to the problem - if they know how to fix it then there doesn't seem to be much of a problem (your current hesitation/surging being a good example). I know someone who has so far had out of IM, 3 new gearboxes, 2 new engines and 3 sets of discs..... can't say the warranty is worth nothing....

Matt.

Pros - will be faster for a while

Cons - will probably be dead shortly after a while

Is not the most "elegant" way of getting power out of a Scoob.

There's chipping and there's chipping.

The SuperChip has a poor reputation (engines going *BANG* etc).

The UniChip has a good reputation.

I have had a UniChip for over a year, driven the car hard (on SUL), with no problems that I know of.

Think I won't be getting one now.Subaru UK have told me I cant' purchase another two years warranty(I got it from Holland) because it is now void, due to full decatted exhaust. I'm not bothered about that but I don't want it going bang, so superchip is off the list. Where can I get info on this uni chip? what power, reliability, cost etc.

Pros, cheapest method of requiring an engine rebuild.

Cons, there are more fun ways to destroy an engine.

chiark

My local dealer in Birmingham Carstins told me that I could extend my warranty, but when they phoned about the exhaust they wouldn't let me take it out. The number is in the dealer book somewhere. It was going to be £380 for the extra two years.

SUPERCHIP - Ok lets settle this once and for all.
Who has owned a superchiped Scooby?
Whos engine went bang?
Was it professionally set up?
Did you re-set it or play about with it?

Iam driving quite happily with my Superchip from Falkland who know what they are on about. Never had any problems and loads of torque (263lbf-ft) from a MY00.
I know the reputaion Superchips have but after talking to Falkland I was re-assured and got it installed.
If you have personal experience lets hear from you - Is the truth out there???

My Jap WRX was chipped about 18 months ago and set up properly. Since then there`s been no problems with the engine and my mota is "driven" Loads more power and better responce etc. 1 of the best things I`ve had done up2 now. 2 many people without personal experience wanna get their 2 pence worth in on this subject many of them just repeating bollox rumours they`ve heard. Been there, done it, wouldn`t change it.

me and princess have a my95 uk car with a superchip.
goes like the clappers, never had a single problem, and knocked the socks off my old my00 ppp.
would i superchip a my00? i doubt it as i would want to keep the warranty. would i superchip an older, out of warranty car.yep!
or i would try a unichip if any doubts remained.

1.5 bar from a UK car!!!! That's ridiculous, the ecu surely can't correctly fuel for that level of boost?
I had a Superchip fitted properly, and on the first track day afterwards it went BANG!
There you go, first hand experience.
The components of a Superchip probably cost about £30, as it's only a fuel-cut defender chip and a bleed-valve. It simply stops the ecu from detecting overboost and turns the boost up. I tried it because my car was still under warranty and I got hold of a cheap one. If you think £400 is good vfm, when for a bit extra you can get a Unichip fitted and mapped, that's your choice.
Just out of interest, how many of you 'Superchippers' have Knocklinks fitted to your cars?

Stef.

So what boost can you safely run on a MY00 UK spec scoobs. I've just had a unichip and EC IV fitted, also uprated the intercooler hoses to samco ones. Interested to know what people run. I thought about superchip but after some reasearch, their method of increasing engine performace scared me.

Unichip is fantastic.

Is Unichip the fantastic solution its made out to be ?. From what Ive seen, its not like a fit an forget like a PPP. At the recent Rolling Road day, both Unichip cars were having Det problems. Now I'm sure that Powerstation will sort it out, but its a bit of a pain if it needs adjusting. I would consider one myself, but only with a Knocklink, and I'd be prepared for the odd trip to Cheltenham.

I guess any ecu upgrade that allows you to push an engine to its limits is prone to causing problems such as knocking. It all comes down to how it is mapped. I am going to purchase a knocklink myself for my car as I would like to keep an eye on what going on in the engine. Of course the Unichip does not replace the stock ECU, which would still retard ignition if it detected knocking.

Since having the unichip installed the power delivery is so smoooooth!! its incomparable to what it was like before.

I am not a engine boff so anybody correct me if i am talking s$it.

I have a SuperChip on MY00 uk spec ,it was properley set up , no problems , goes well , and I'm on 17500 on the Speedo !!

I have a Scooby Sport Exhaust , this is not a problem as far as the Warranty does, if it blowsI'll remove the chip, but there's no sign at the moment!!
