Unhappy

Went to my Dealer today to see about Piston slap fix. OUCH , BIG OUCH. They reckon its 17 hrs labour which adds up to £865 . Looks like im gonna do it myself when i do a clutch as i will take Engine out. I personaly think it should be 8 hrs work to .10 hrs tops

1 1/2 hrs to remove Engine. (90mins )

1 hr to remove head.

1 Hr to get Piston out.

1 hr to put new Piston in .

1 1/2 hrs to replace head . (90 mins )

2 hrs to replace Engine .

Ok ive worked on Engines before Petrol and Diesel but never flat 4 . So how the hell do they come up with 17 hrs ? after all they work on them every day..

Answers please.

Cheers Steve

Piston may have ovalised the cylender..... Add some time to check it all out preoerly. You'll be pi55ed if you put the lump back in to find out you've got to do it all again.

plus, 8 hours of your time, with no tea/coffee/lunch/general arsing about. They'll never do it in 1 day, so they'll quote you 2 days +

My Scooby is a MY98 with 43k on her with FSSH, and my piston slap is being repaired FOC by Subaru, piston slap is a common fault with MY97 and MY98, it may be worth speaking to your dealer and say about it being a manufacturers fault

Steve

We allow 9 hours for the job.

Parts you need are piston, rings (these come as a full engine set), exhaust manifold gaskets, inlet gasket, rocker gasket, downpipe gasket, engine oil and coolant.

If its caught in time all of the wear is to the piston and the bore will be ok.
