Firstly - appologies for bringing this seemingly sticky subject up again. I've read practically every post I can find on hte subject but have been unable to locate any images.

Anyhow - I got my knocklink installed over the W/E - I chose the position as marked by the red arrow:

This seemed more appropriate than the position marked with the green arrow (which I beleive is the one generally suggested9if you don't mount on top of the original sensor ???)).

The thing is I rarely get even one LED lit and have only had two lit once or twice - The car is an '97 JAP import Sti (@1.1 bar max boost on 97 RON)

Is my mounting position no good (too far away from original position - (I've read all about the alternate position for the std sensor so I'm guessing that the signal around this area is less??) or is it that I'm just not getting any knock?

Best place is under the intercooler on the block. Have a look how and where it's mounted in the pic here.

Cheers,

Wrexy.

Thumbs up

I take it that the intercooler needs to be removed before fitting. If so, is there anything i need to know about removing an intercooler?

thanks

Actually it is fairly easy to do WITHOUT removing the intercooler ... did it on mine this weekend, MY00. Remove the intercooler bracket on the N/S ,plus move a pipe that was slightly restricting access, then it was no problem at all.

I found the cigarette lighter feed easy to get at by removing the radio, don't forget to use a suitable in-line fuse.
There may well be better/easy places though.

I used the feed to my turbo timer because I've mounted the display on the RHS of the dash - but for other stuff I've found the ciggy lighter is the most convinient.

It becomes live one key switch position before the ignition, so yes its a switched feed and not live all the time.
