Sounds like you need a new lambda sensor and get the car right first and then consider if you want a remap (although it usually means an aftermarket ECU replacement eg Link) for a MY98.

Very strange, running about double factory output if I cruise at 80mph I still get 25 mpg.

Question

Do you run your car on unleaded fuel by per chance?

Same as me, MY98 and I get about 220 miles to a tank

By the way can you fit a TEK2.5 to a 98 (facelift) or is it just the Link ECU?

Unhappy

would like remap for my MY98 as well, but it would seem there are no cheap options for this model. Power Engineering do a conversion to ecu but it's not a "custom map" so benifits will be limited.

You can get an Apexi FC System that can re-map your car however, these are not cheap retailing at £750+VAT. on top of this you have your mapping charge which is circa £300. ALSO, on top of this you need something to control the boost ie Apexi AVC-R or the boost controller that links in with the FC @ £250+VAT. Something as simple as a Dawes device will work on this instance but not to the same capabilities as the AVC-R.

Hope this helps..

Remember a lambda sensor is likely to read as 'ok' if asked unless there's actually cables broken/utterly knackered. It can misread hugely (& therefore produce very rich mixtures) & still be reported as 'ok' by itself/software/ECU - the way to check is with an additional AFR reading (from another sensor).

Maybe you just drive it quite hard then?

Remap will not improve your economy unless you run it open loop on cruise which is what is usually done with a Link.

It will give you more boost and correct fuelling and timing maps.

Suggest contact BR Developments re a Link ECU for your MY98.
