Question

My '98 Uk turbo's always had semi-synthetic oil put in it at oil changes, except on first service, but that dealer went bust(!!)
This morning, it looks like I need to top up, and I have two, one-litre bottles of Esso Ultron fully synthetic, given to me by the first dealer, on a shelf in my garage.
Is it OK to mix the two types, or should I go out and buy some Semi to top up with? Thanx for any replies.

Does it say anything on the bottles in your garage about mixing?

Don't think it is a good idea to mix.

reminds me of the old story of the woman who put her cat int he microwave when it was wet.

The instructions didnt say not to either.

But then she did successfully sue the manufacturers!

Although it's always best to use "either-or" mixing semi and full synthetic is ok, they both come from the same base stocks anyway. Back in the "old days" it was a no-no to mix mineral oil with castor based oil (eg Castrol M)
Esso Ultron is a 5w/40 and is fine.

Thumbs up

Yes, it's 5W40, and was what the selling dealer put in at services, so it should be OK.
