Hi, I have a '94 wrx import, can someone tell me what the dial above the stereo indicates, it's the one on the right with "temp" on it.
I ask because it has started to go up to the maximum 50, but goes down to 40 when I put the heater on. Also cooling fluid has started to spurt out of the water overflow tank overflow pipe in front of the battery.

Please help! Cheers, Nik

Question

I assume he wants to know what it is measuring the temperature of?

Picture would help if you have one. I don't know the interior of earlier models so wouldn't like to hazard a guess.

check your engine fan is kicking in as the coolent is getting so hot its spurting out the header tank.

My fan fuse was blown, this created the same effect.

if the fan is kicking in, i would take it to a garage, as water backing up out of the tank can mean to much presure in the engine. this is normaly down to the head gasket gone/going and the gasket has blown a hole between one of the water ports and the piston port.

Water Temp - the reason it goes down when heater is on is
because heat is being dispersed into car!!
When my MINI overheated in summer traffic jams the
cure was to put heater/blowers on full - didnt do
much for interior of car, but cooled engine
