You need to install a boost gauge mate.
This can give lots of info..
If you have boost readings then it makes it a lot easier to help ya..

When you say "holds back" is that like it's hesitating? If so it could be your sparkplugs, coilpacks, boost solenoid or MAF sensor.

Easiest to do are the later two if you've got a can of brake cleaner

If it's not them then it may be one of the others. Are your plugs gapped to 0.7mm? Have you tested your coils? I think there's a thread on it somewhere?

I have the same problem on mine..goes really well when the air temp is cold but on a warm day does not rev as easy. I have changed all four coil packs, but car still ran the same. So I'm having the mass airflow sensor changed tomorrow, I will get back to you with the results.

The coil packs sit on top of each of the spark plugs.

Thumbs up

I too own a 93 wrx.
Tried that Nitrox Hot Shot octane booster. It supposidly cleans the fuel sytem and lubricates working parts. Having an old car, i thought this would be worth a try. Holy s***

I normally just use optimax. I put a bottle of this stuff in and once ide gone through about a quarter of a tank, i couldnt believe the difference. The car feels more powerful and the throttle response is so much sharper. Unbelievable!!! Maybe my fuel system was in a real state before i did this. Give it a shot.
