Question

Am confused as to how to read code - am getting two long flashes and four short flashes and am assuming that long = 10 and short = 1 therefore total is 24?. (No where seems to explain how to interpret the flashing codes - well not that I understand anyway!).

This equates to either Idle air control solenoid or Air control valve or circuit - not sure which?.

Symptoms are that the engine check light comes on generally when decerelating/on a trailing throttle. This goes out immediately you stop. There is no problem on idle or on accelerating.

Have reset the ECU but has not cured it.

What needs checking or replacing?.

Try here subaru manual
Sounds like 24 to me "idle air control solenoid valve"

I don't know where this sensor is located but have a look at the diagnostics on the above link as I think it shows you the positions of all the sensors

Have found the diagram at work. The sensor you need is in front of the intercooler, on the right nand side mounted just off the inlet manifold (i presume you have a pre 97 model as that is what my diagram shows) Look in the diagnostics section under "electrical unit locations" and it is shown along with all the other sensors.

Let me know if you still can't find it and I'll post a picture for you

Just checked the site and the link to the manuals seems to have vanished
