Within the last couple of days every time the air con cuts in there is a terrible gas smell entering the passenger compartment, what is the most likely cause for this? a broken matrix in the footwell?

Are they expensive to repair / renew ?

Thanks

Jeff

What is the smell? Gases usual smell of something, so a gassy smell doesn't help very much

Dont know whether any use to you mate - but I had wot i thought was gas coming from the vents - real sweet smell tho - reminded me of coffee. Anyway it was my matrix that had failed - easy way to prove is turn on the heaters and watch the inside of your screen mist up like a kettle boiling in front of a cold mirror.....best way to explain it

Dont know if this helps ?

Are there not seperate matrix's for the heating and air conditioning?

The heating still seems to work fine and no misting detected.

The smell is difficult to describe but it soon hurts the back of your throat !

I think I read some threads months back about bacteria causing smells when you turn on the a/c. I think you can buy a spray or something to treat it or it can be treated professionally. Either way from the sounds of the threads I read the problem is not a serious one.

Use the search function and se what you can find.

If its hurting your throat its not bacteria / mould. Sorry but it sounds like a refrigerant leak. Best to get it checked by a refrigeration engineer. Any garage should be able to put you on to one since garages don't do aircons themselves.

BTW I've had to call off from the tt meet, cars still in bits. Any luck with your boost problem?
