Question

Just fitted a decat mild steel downpipe from Midland Impreza to my 94 WRX. The guy on the phone said that I should leave the heatshield off the turbo and also diconnect the braided hose sensor wire from the old pipe and leave disconnected. Is this right? Is my fuel bill going to go through the roof?

Was also wondering what kind of power it's pushing out now. I know it's 240bhp standard, has now got full decat, vta dump valve and K&N filter. 270 bhp a bit optomistic? Any gains to be made with an induction kit? Thanks for any help.

I'd put the heatsheild on mate, I take it its an open neck d/p as the heatshield tends not to fit easily after fitting open necks?
It'll just need a bit of a nip here and there with some tin snips or get a hacksaw on it.

The sensor the guy told you to leave unpluged is an exhaust temperature sensor and probably has no location in your new d/p?, it's fine to leave it unplugged. It only operates a light on the dash which is essentially a cat too hot light, and as you are decatted...

Refit the heatshild and if possible wrap the d/pipe in insulating bandage. unless you want heat soak, and boiling break fluid. (if you are driving it correctly) I used the intake for the old air box and a piece of ducting to effectivly blow the hot air down and away from the I/C and break fluid resovoir.

Cheers, better get round to doing that then. Incidently I thought I would have a go at removing a dent from the wing myself today, going against all advice to get it done professionally. I carefully removed the wheelarch lining and prised gently with a screwdriver against the inside of the unsightly recess and guess what, it now looks ten times worse. I always learn the hard way. Anyone know a decent sprayshop in the Wrexham area?
