Question

Just so I don't start to think that I've gone mad, can anyone confirm that there should be no high-speed ticking noise coming from the cambelt area of their MY01- WRX? Sounds like something is catching something else, but I can't see anything. The cambelt itself looks fine.

Only just noticed the sound whilst walking round the front of the car before putting it in the garage tonight. Never noticed it last
weekend after washing the car.

Thanks

Richard

Richard,

check that your crank pulley is not loose. This is the pulley that drives the alternator/power steering belt.

It could be a faulty cambelt tensioner..
It will be replaced under warranty.. & there is a modified one that we fit now if the origional fails..

The tensioner is located behind the Cam cover just below the A/C compresor.. Ie on the right handside of the engine..

Another thought could be the Cambelt retainer clips..if they are fitted to your engine

There are 3 of them.. Two are located on each corner of the camcover on the Offside, the other is on the top Nearside corner.. They are underneath the cam cover and are positioned to stop the cambelt "slipping a tooth".. Normally they are set to run approx 1mm from the belt..
