Question

On starting the car (MY02 WRX 4k miles) I often get a petrol smell. This passes very quickly, but I would be interested to know what it could be?

Also noticed this a couple of times when I tried Optimax in slowish traffic. I haven't noticed it since going back to Esso SUL.

Any ideas?

Never had this.

If it only happens in the morning ...

... could be your aftershave

Wink

Could you post the smell on here ? it might give us a better idea

Edited to say: seriously though its probably just a cloud of unburnt petrol that blows past the car depending on wind direction. When started it will be a bit rich until it warms up, on cold days you can see the cloud of fumes generated which can engulf the car.

Quite common if you start it in a confined space.
IIRC fuel is pumped through to heat the cats up quicker, hence the smell
