My MY99 is going in for it's 45k service in a couple of weeks
I remember reading on Scoobynet about an oil seal (crankshaft?) that can only done when the belt is off. As it's coming off i'm thinking it's gonna be worthwhile changing it. Can anyone confirm which gasket it is?

I dimly remember reading something about this as well. I think it was the crank oil seal, and people were changing it at 90k miles.

The Cam Belt is the expensive one - mine is due in a few weeks time.

Is the belt itself expensive or the labour involved in fitting it?

Bought mine for £50 and had it fitted for £40, I gave a helping hand whilst fitting, took at the most 2 Hrs. Only removed the Fans and not the whole radiator.
Get someone who has done it before and give a helping hand and save yourself some money. If your not very confident, pay over the odds and let the Garage do it, at least they will be responsable for any problems.

Can anyone confirm crank oil seal? Is it worth doing at 45k?

I didnt do mine as it wasnt showing any signs of weaping. It isnt expensive and it isnt difficult in proportion to what your doing. If its going to a Garage then yeah let them do it, if your doing it and the one thats on the car looks ok dont bother. Not all of them go, sometimes replacing something can lead to more problems, ie it could be bone dry and you deceide to change it and then it suffers a tiny weep. Not exactly a huge problem but anoying none the less.

JGM has posted on here on a number of occasions that his seal went just after his 90k cambelt change and he recommends a 90k change to avoid the labour charge of having to do the same all over agaian

Hope this helps
