would anyone be prepared to talk me through lining up the marks on the pulleys before i put the new belt on.

Assuming the old belt is still on ... why line anything up, just mark each pulley in the position its in against the closest object that won't move,with something easily visible, (i use Tippex)... take care removing the old belt and fit the new .. thats how i've always done it. Cam pulleys don't move that easily anyway.
