Unhappy

More fault codes have rolled up on the ecu since my last faults I solved a couple of months ago.

Im getting fault code 21 (Engine coolant temp sensor) which I have replaced once already. It was however second hand. And code 45 which I think is pressure sensor-pressure exchange solenoid valve.

Were do you locate the pressure sensor?? (Any pics would be great)

Also to set the seen, Its snowing here in Darlo, the temps down and I have a dangerous level of antifreeze in (Or so the guage says) the temp guage was about quarter and the ecu light came on when I turned the ignition to the last turn before firing up. The engine fans came on???????

Is the pressure switch the fan switch??? can this code be throwing the other code (21) out faulsly??

The ecu light has been coming on and off for a few weeks. It sometimes flashes on a couple of times a day sometimes once in a week etc etc so I dont think! the weather had anything to do with it. Also due to the light flashing on and off I havent been able to flash it out before now.

But strangly I have never noticed the fans on before today!!

Any help much appreciated
Regards Ronnie

Not the boost solenoid???? is it??

You mean the one to the left of that with Denzo wrote on???
Are they expensive??? Does it just need cleaning??? And why does the fan cut on, when not warm??? is that linked to this sensor

Ronnie, re boost solenoids, there is a section in the sidc faq I beleive detailing how to clean them using carb cleaner... they quite often get clogged with a little oil that has worked it's way around the system.

ronnie I am suffering the same thing as you at the momment. have you got or had an induction kit on as I used to have a pipercross one fitted which had to be sprayed with oil so after reading these posta I am going to try and clean as instructed. I have cleaned the MAF sensor with car cleaner as that was covered with a small amount of oil also. Will let you know what happens.

Yes I have an inductuion filter, but it wasnt new and didnt have any oil (visible) on. I will clean the boost solenoid as instructed. But why does the fan keep coming on when the ecu light comes on then goes off when the light goes off!!

thats what i would like to know. About 2 weeks ago my CEL stayed on and the fan stayed on the same as yours is but after a ECU reset it has stopped the light staying on and the fan coming on so just leaving the CEL to come on and off as it likes.

Ronnie,

Sounds similar to what happend to mine.
Fans comming on 1st thing in the morning etc.
I just got to the bottom of it 2night The coolant sensor had gone open circuit, only noticed it when I put my link back in the cold enrichment was reading -16º now hey it`s pretty cold but not that cold When I put a meter across the sensor reading ohms it was open circuit (no resistance over the sensor) this was confirmed by heating the sensor in situ with a hair dryer, yet there was no change in value. Yet with a good 1 the resistance changes.

Ronnie,

The coolant sensor is on the large flat aluminium elbow which runs across the 2 1/2`s of u r engine. It`s under the manifold, at the back of the alternator, about 2 inches back from the oil pressure switch.
It`s a small brown 2 pin socket, next to the single black plug.

LOL yeah open circuit in this case = fubar

If u still can`t find it gimme a shout an I`ll upload a pic 4 u
