Question

MY00 is pretty much standard at the moment apart from a full de-cat system (turbo-back).

Am looking to get more better performance and safely.

Whats the best way forward?

Manual boost control? (such as Dawes)

Electronic boost control? (such as HKS or Apexi)

Re-map? (such as Tek2?)

All comments and advice would be helpful. Am willing to spend upto £700-800 if needed.

Cheerz.

Knocklink £140
Dawes £50
Tek 1 £150 or AE800 or AE801 MY99 ECU £100

... are your cheapest options.

Tek 2 or similar is more expensive but smoother.

Get a boost gauge as well if you don't already have one.

If you're looking for better performance with just what you have and no plans for other mods I'd so go for the chip - probably best from a safety/performance perspective.

John,

Mine was manufactered in 1999, so will check ECU type first.

What are you views on NOS? (Not something I'm seriously considering unless I'm convinced)

NOS - not tried it personally. PE do a kit. Personally, I would rather get the turbo and intercooler working correctly to get the power I want. The limit is the internals once you get the right turbo/intercooler.

I think Dawes is OK for small boost increases but you cant beat a remapp to suit your car. Appart from the increase in boost you have a propper fuel map to go with it for safety.

Question

is it safe to have a re-map on its own?

e.g. if I got my decatted car just re-mapped, I'd be safe (and would not need anthing else installed/fitted)?

akshay67 - yup, you can raise the boost a bit and optimise timing/fuelling. You'd basically be looking at tek2 type gains.

Question

I was actually thinking of tek 2'ing it for re-map - will I need to get any additional safety devices?

555ingh,think about a Tek2/3.Its within your budget and from what others say should transform your car.
