I have a 95 wrx jap import. i was at a garage this morning after a run and as i was running low i put £20 of 4 star LRP in the tank by mistake. there was about a quarter tank of super UL in the tank b4 i put the 4 star in. the garage was about half a mile from my home. i tried to cyphon off the LRP but eventually took the car back to the garage coz there were a couple of mechanics doing some work. I asked to have the tank drained and one of the boys said that one tank of LRP should make no difference as the octane rating is similar to SUL. i asked about the CAT ( i assume the 95 jap import has a CAT) and again he said one tank should not make a difference, just dont make a habit of it.

I am now worried i may have an expensive engine repair if i run th car any further. i filled the rest of the tank up with another £13.50 worth of SUL so the tank is now filled to the neck.

Any advice would be appeciated. do i need to have the tank taken out and drained?

Thanks

Big Sinky

It should be OK, although I wouldnt use it regularly. ALthouhg the octane rating is supposed to be the same, the fuel is apparently just crap. Both Lambda sensor, and cat probably wont like it much, but again, for all you used it should be fine. It will not cause any engine damage, just dirve easy for a bit.
Just fill her up with SUL as soon as possible. Get rid of the cats anyway, it really does make a huge difference.
Most Shell, and a lot of Esso garages seem to have SUL now, certainly around the Glengromley/Belfast areas anyway

talking of cats, i am right then in assuming my 95 motor has a cat. who would remove the cat for me and still have the car pass emmision test come MOT time?. the car is already putting out about 270-280 BHP, will the cat removal make that much of a differnce.

One releived scooby owner.

cheers

They have one cat in the downpipe at that age, uk cars have 2 cats.... My car with a blitz exhaust (no decat) and air filter recently made 262bhp/237lb-ft @11psi on optimax 98ron... after me a lad went on with the same car MY95 WRX but he had a mongoose exhaust, a de-cat down pipe and a K&N air filter he made 269bhp/265lb-ft and on 97ron..!!

Attu:

260 Ps is just over 256 bhp in standard form. i have a stainless steel exhaust which apparently (so i have been told) adds another 10 - 15 bhp and when i get the 57i induction kit that might (though i doubt it) add another few bhp.

cheers

big sinky

anyone know of anybody in northern ireland will remove the cat in the downpipe?

Sinky, whereabouts in NI are you?? If anywhere near belfast/mallusk, contact Michael on 07973830587

Your car should have 2 cats, but if you already have a stainless steel exhaust, then possibly one has already been removed, or maybe even both.
MOT time is dodgy with the new MOT centres, but if you have a good stainless steel system fitted, then it will be easy to re-fit the centre cat at MOT time, which should easily pass the MOT.
Some stainless systems dont allow this though, such as Mongoose. If its a Dee's Exhaust special, then throw it in the bin, as they are crap. Not sure if the stainless steel exhaust franchise in Ballymena are any better, but the P'flow franchise over here dont seem to be able to offer anything above 2 1/4", which is nowhere near adequate.
If its an old MOT centre, then you should get away with no cat with no problems, but they are all soon going to be upgraded.
Giv Michael a call, he will help you.

stevie,

i'm livin in east belfast atm. the scooby has 10 months to run on the MOT. it was MOT'd in some garage in Liverpool before it came in to norn iron, so even if it had been decatted do you think those to$$ers in scouse land would have given a **** if it hadda failed emmisions. i am gonna have to get under the car and see what type of exhaust is on her. i tell ya one thing it certainly sounds good. will give this boy a ring on monday.

cheers
