Sorry if this has been done to death, but the search is bringing no results back for anything

I have a MY00 with AE802, the only mod I have is Magnex BB & Decat Centre section

Which is a better option an AE800 or a Tek 1 ? I know they are mapped very similar, but are the differences just subtle ones,

And does fuel economy stay the same/better/worse

At the moment im getting about 300-350 miles on a full tank

I would get a John Banks custom map, but I dont have that kind of money, at least not for quite a while

ANy help would be appreciated

with that mileage for a tankfull , if your happy with the car and mileage is important i wouldnt do a thing, got tek2 etc i only get about 220 miles to a tankfull.
personally id go with ae800 as when you sell the car you have the ecu to resell

I was offered an AE800 for 100 quid, but in the end turned it down, when I realised that the car had no tax, after buying it (i know I should have checked)

Then 5 minutes after I had declined the purchase, someone posted wanting an AE802 !!!

Ive heard that the 802 isnt the best certainly in comparison to an 800 or even a Tek 1

MPG is sort of important ish, thats why I was thinking 800 or Tek 1, as really they shouldnt alter my current mpg

btw the 350 I got on a full tank was all motorway, odd boost on slip roads, but stayed at mainly 80-85 with the odd burst up to 95 (private road )

I wouldnt mind trying one, to see if it does smooth out the driving

Steve

I replaced my AE802 with an AE801 last saturday. Can only say its the best 100 notes I've spent. I would say definitely get either an AE800 (MY98iirc) or AE801(MY99) and keep hold of your AE802. They pop up in for sale at £100ish regularly, and are unlikely to lose their value (sell it at a later date for at least the same). Car is so much smoother, it accelerates faster, there is a very noticeable difference perticularly in gears one and two.
Like I say only had it a week, haven't noticed any difference in MPG, but the fuel level has dropped alarmingly 'cos i can't stop driving the bl00dy thing!

Current thread in Drivetrain, gives you details how to work out which ECU you should have without physically checking.

As far as the AE800 and AE801's are concerned i didn't think there was much of a difference, the AE802 is pants, which is why the TEK1 was developed, but AFAIK the TEK1 pretty much recreates the map for the other two ECU's. As you can probably tell I'm to teccie, but 'broadbrush' this is how I've interpreted what i've read on Scoobynet. Sure someone will pick up any glaring errors.

Cool

GazTurbo,
if you have an MY99 you'll probably have either an 800 or an 801 so to get any improvement you'll need to go for a Tek2 at about £500. It only takes a few minutes to check which you've got, just lift the carpet in the passenger footwell and undo a few bolts on the cover, then you'll be able to see the ecu in all its glory.

If you do go for a Tek 2 the shrewd thing to do is to offer to swap your 800/801 for an 802 plus some cash with someone on here and then have the 802 reprogrammed by Ecutek. Makes the whole thing a bit cheaper

Tek 1 is slightly leaner and runs a tiny bit more boost that AE800/801. There is no perceptible difference as far as I can tell between AE800 and AE801, the Tek 1 improvement over an AE800/1 would probably need measuring to detect.

Cool

I origially swapped my "green" 802 for a Tec 1 in my MY00.
The improvements were small, a bit smoother, a bit quicker in mid range, but not really much of a difference.
I then swapped the Tec 1 for a Tec2, that was more like it!
Still a bit too much "top end" as opposed to mid range, but a lovely surge in the midrange nonetheless. Also, the more I drive the car, it seems to actually be getting better. Could be my imagination, but there it is. The car is otherwise standard mechanically, so if you have some other mods you would probably find even more difference.
