Novice Boost controller type question!
#1
Ok I will lay all my cards on the table and admit I am way out of my depth here!
I recently saw an Apexi AVC-R Boost controller running in an R34 and instantly wanted one. I dont know why maybe it was the impressive blue display and buttons!
Questions...
1) What is the benefit of an electronic boost controller?
2) What exactly does it do?
3) Would I notice any Benefit to a near standard car (not for to long!!)

Any advice greatly appreciated, Christmas is coming and I deserve a present!
Thanks
Matt

1) The only differences between an electronics boost controller and a manual one is the price in performance terms, but the EBC is prettier and looks much more sophisticated.
2) It just changes the boost that the engine is running either by bleeding away from the wastegate actuator or by using another boost solenoid as some has.
3) Hell yeah!

Remember that the one downside is you remove the ECU's ability to adjust boost based on conditions. It can put in some retardation but if you're running low grade fuel on a hot day you could have problems if you're boosting too high.

Not sure how the work with twin turbo setups like that, but ebc's do a very good job. They will help spool up quicker, and allow boost to be held for longer usually. They also give very accuarate control over the boost throughout the revs, and most are very easy to use from inside the car.
IMO they are excellent. A little expensive, but they work

Another plus side for me is that i can adjust boost on the move, when i want to run 0.5bar for motorway driving etc..
And when i want to have some fun i can adjust it
Only downside was price... Blitz SBC idII.. Did get a very good price from Jamie at JW Racing though

Thanks for the replies.
I spoke to Power Engineering earlier today and they suggested that I speak to Mervyn on Monday. They seemed to agree it was a good idea if set up properly and used sensibly. I took the plunge so it should arrive in the next few days.
Thanks
Matt
