Question

Just driven home and noticed my rear drivers side wheel is very hot. Checked the others and they are fine. Is this a sign of a failing (or failed) wheel bearing?
I've had a bearing go before, but it made a bit of noise so was easier to detect.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Could be but I would suspect it is more likely the brake caliper sticking on.. imho..

Get it checked or check it yourself..

Or could be something really simple like low tyre pressure

I didn;t notice my low tyre until it got to 10psi and then the 40 profile tyre looked only slightly less inflated than the others.
Dunno if it was hot but have had other tyres steaming in the wet due to underinflation.

What made you notice it was hot?

Also you can check if it is the bearing relatively easily.. jack up the car.. and grip top and bottom of the wheel try and move it in and out (into and away from the car) if there is any give in it the then wheel bearings need changing.

or the handbrake mech sticking on. If a wheel bearing was worn enough to make it heat up the wheel, then it should be pretty loud. Most probably a brake sticking of some sort.

I think your right chaps.
I didn't mention it earlier, but the pads have just been changed all round.
Must be a stuck caliper.
I will drop it back into the garage for a sorting.

I noticed it because as I walked past it about 1ft away, I could feel the heat off it through my trousers. It was very hot and all the others were stone cold.
