I have collected some data for exhaust noise - some measured myself, some from a couple of people in the states who have measured things. None of the systems I have data for are anywhere near as quiet as the standard system on a MY01-02, which to be honest is inaudible (from the backbox) from inside the car.
Quiet backboxes - prodrive, MRT, APS, plus one or two of the american systems. The Magnex backbox was about 5 dB louder than the prodrive at 5000rpm on an identical full de-cat; Magnex is very much "mid pack" noise wise. Blitz and HKS are a lot louder still, typically another 5-10dB.
I've got a full APS sports cat system, similar volume to a prodrive (i.e. signifcantly quieter than Magnex), and think it's great. However, some non enthusiasts have commented that they think mine is a loud exhaust, so I don't doubt you'll find the Magnex loud, especially comparing with "normal" cars.
Oddly, I found the opposite re:temperature - mine gets quieter when it warms up.

Out of interest dont suppose uve got a DB increase on the blitz with silencer in do ya as while i note it is mildly deeper when i've conpared it 2 a standard box on idle it's not noticibly noisier Just wondered as neighbours still luv a moan but i reckon they just have it in their heads it's much louder since i made every1's ears bleed without the silencer for the 1st few weeks

I think my Magnex is really quiet compared to other ones I've heard, and that's fully decatted!
Actually looking to get rid of the resonator to liven it up a bit.
Symonds, you're welcome to have a listen to mine if you want, as I'm near Pompey too.

My Magnex backbox fitted on a line with sport cat downpipe has a "broad noise" as I was searching for, quiet at low rpm, typically the boxer sound we like after 4000rpm.
A bit noisy on hihgways at around from 160-170 km/h.
Fitted on a STI7.
P.S. The quality is really top.
