As above. Interested to hear what symptons other Scooby drivers have experienced which have led to a maf failure.

A huge explosion at wot with 5k rpm, followed by engine stall - a heart stopping moment to be sure Cycling ignition gave MAF cel.

But this was a complete (vibration related) failure. More normal is for it to slowly start undereading. This will give better performance due to leaning out the mixture....up to a point, of course, then your engine goes bang for real

Edited to add: in reality, you'll get detonation from too weak a mixture so ecu will pull timing. This *should* be noticed as a loss of performance. If it's not noticed and car continues to det, there is risk.

Very rough idle; even stalling on idle is another early indicator.
